Facial Scar Revision Surgery in Chester NJ

Facial reconstruction may help improve the appearance and function after burns or other forms of trauma. Scars may contract (shrink) over time which can cause problems with appearance or function. There are often minimally invasive options to improve facial scarring including office procedures such as microneedling or dermabrasion or chemical peeling. In some cases the best option for patients may be a scar revision procedure which is also usually performed in the office under local anesthesia.
For patients who have broken facial bones after trauma, repairing the bones may be necessary to improve the appearance or functions of the face including vision and chewing. In these cases surgery allows for repositioning bones into the correct location and securing these bones sometimes with plates or screws.
The nasal bones are the most common bones to break in the face. When patients experience a broken nose, the nose usually bleeds at time of the trauma. Broken nasal bones may cause a crooked nose or block nasal breathing. Patients who have a broken nose should seek out a consultation as soon as possible from a facial plastic surgeon who specializes in nasal surgery and nasal trauma. When the nasal bones are repaired within 7-10 days after they are broken, they can often be quickly shifted back into place with a procedure called an “closed reduction of a nasal bone fracture”. If the nasal bones are repaired later after healing, it may require re-breaking of the nasal bones.
