Hair Restoration in Chester NJ

There are numerous options for hair restoration including both surgical and non-surgical solutions which are safe and effective. Hair loss is extremely common, impacting over 80% of white men and 40% of women.‡ The first step in a hair restoration journey is to visit a doctor specializing in hair restoration to determine the cause of your hair loss. While the most common cause of hair loss is hormone-related, other causes are important to identify and can impact successful treatment
Hair Restoration Options
Once the diagnosis of your hair loss is confirmed, you can consider numerous options for treatment. Medications such as minoxidil or finasteride may be taken by mouth or applied to the scalp to help strengthen and improve hair density and prevent further hair loss. Microneedling is another common treatment for hair restoration and is frequently chosen by patients who do not want to take medications consistently or have stalled in their progress while taking medications. Microneedling is a short clinic procedure with limited downtime and is often repeated for a series of treatments every 4-6 weeks. In addition to improving blood flow to the scalp Microneedling can also allow medications or growth factors that are applied to the scalp surface to be delivered below the skin to the hair follicles.
Hair Restoration Procedure
While medications and microneedling generally require repeated or continued treatments, hair transplant is a permanent and definitive restorative procedure for hair loss. Hair transplant involves moving hair follicles from areas of strong hair to weaker or more scattered areas of thinning. There have been a number of historical methods to perform hair transplantation, which have become much more refined in recent years. The years of “pluggy” hairlines are behind us! The modern methods of hair transplantation separate individual follicular units and implant them to create a natural canvas of the patient’s own hair. The two techniques most used today are follicular unit excision (FUE) and follicular unit transplant (FUT). FUT involves removing a narrow strip of skin and harvesting all the individual follicles, while FUE is performed with a microscopic punch to remove scattered individual follicular units from a wider zone on the back and sides of the scalp. The recipient site (areas of hair loss being treated) are implanted in a similar fashion regardless of the harvest technique. When chosen properly both procedures can give excellent results, so it is important to consult with a hair transplant specialist with experience in both FUT and FUE to find out which procedure is the best fit for you.
